BIRMINGHAM, AL — The skies above Birmingham will once again come alive with color, sound, and celebration as Thunder on the Mountain returns to Red Mountain on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Presented by UAB Medicine, Alabama’s largest and most spectacular Fourth of July fireworks show will mark the nation’s 250th birthday with a dazzling display visible across Birmingham and Homewood.
For years, Thunder on the Mountain has been a defining Independence Day tradition, bringing together families, friends, and visitors from across the region to celebrate the freedoms and spirit that unite America. This year’s event promises to deliver an unforgettable experience as thousands gather to witness one of the state’s most anticipated holiday celebrations.
At approximately 9 p.m., Pyro Shows of Alabama will ignite the first of more than 2,500 fireworks shells and effects, launching a breathtaking 20-minute production synchronized to a patriotic soundtrack. The choreographed show will illuminate the Magic City skyline with a stunning tribute to America’s 250-year legacy.
Residents and visitors can tune in to iHeartMedia Birmingham radio stations for the official Thunder on the Mountain soundtrack, including 102.5 The Bull, 103.1 The Beat, 103.7 The Q, Magic 96.5, News Radio 960 WERC and La Jefa 98.3.
The fireworks spectacular will also air live on WBRC 6 News, allowing viewers throughout the metro area to take part in the celebration from home.
“Thunder on the Mountain has become one of Alabama’s most cherished Independence Day traditions,” said organizers with Vulcan Park Foundation. “As our nation celebrates its 250th birthday, we are proud to bring the community together for an evening that honors our history, celebrates our future and showcases the spirit of Birmingham.”
Presented by UAB Medicine, Thunder on the Mountain is organized by Vulcan Park Foundation with support from the City of Birmingham, the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau and the City of Homewood.

Vulcan Park & Museum will close to the public at 3 p.m. on July 4 to allow for event setup and safety preparations.
Please note that Vulcan Park & Museum and Valley View Drive will be closed to the public during the fireworks show.
Thunder on the Mountain can be viewed from numerous locations throughout downtown Birmingham, Homewood and surrounding areas, offering spectators a variety of vantage points to enjoy the celebration.
