Birmingham, Ala. — In partnership with the Birmingham U. S. Army Recruiting Company, the 313th Army Band Unit, and the Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama, Vulcan Park and Museum will hold the Second Annual Flag Day and flag retirement ceremony to raise awareness for proper flag etiquette and to honor those who have served our country. This ceremony is open to the public and will be held at the base of the flag pole at Vulcan Park and Museum on Tuesday, June 14 beginning promptly at 4:45 p.m.
Members of the community who bring their worn flags to the park on June 14 will receive FREE admission to the museum and the observation tower.
Flags will be collected all day at the Vulcan Center Museum from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. then will be donated to the Disabled American Veterans of Birmingham for proper disposal.
The goal of a flag retirement ceremony is to promote American heritage and provide a community service by honorably folding and disposing of worn United States flags.
