Now Accepting Nominations for The Vulcans Community Awards 2015

Birmingham, Ala. — Vulcan Park and Museum is once again calling for nominations for The Vulcans Community Awards. The Vulcans awards honor citizens who exemplify civic pride, leadership and progress within the seven-county metro area. Nominations are open until July 31 in five award categories: Lifetime Achievement, Servant Leadership, Hero, Game Changer and Newcomer. View the criteria and make nominations at visitvulcan.com/the-vulcans.

Five outstanding citizens, whose actions have had or will have a great impact on our region, like Vulcan has symbolized for 111 years, will be recognized. The Vulcans symbolize pride in our region and the significant impact that community members have had on the quality of life here. Only one award will be given for Lifetime Achievement while special Spear awards will be given in the other four categories. Winners will be chosen by an independent panel of diverse citizens. Awards will be presented at The Vulcans Community Awards Dinner on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at The Club in Homewood, AL.

“There are teachers, business owners, parents, public servants and thousands of others positively impacting our lives every day, and The Vulcans is a meaningful way to honor their contributions to society,” said Darlene Negrotto, President and CEO of Vulcan Park Foundation. “These awards celebrate citizens from all walks of life for accomplishing inspirational things in every community of the Birmingham region. We hope nominations will include people who may otherwise go unnoticed including friends, family, co-workers, parishioners, mentors, and others.”

Through an open nomination process, more than 200 entries were received for the inaugural event in 2014. Of those nominations, the selection committee chose a tremendous inaugural class of recipients:
