BIRMINGHAM, AL – After a crowd-pleasing debut last year, Movies on the Mountain has returned to Vulcan Park & Museum! Hosted by VPM Junior Board, this signature event brings Birmingham families, friends, and film lovers back to the city’s most scenic overlook for outdoor screenings under the stars. The 2026 series kicks off with a classic family-friendly film on Saturday, April 11, followed by two more fan favorites in June and October.
This year’s three-part lineup features Shrek in April, Space Jam in June, and Hotel Transylvania in October, all shown against the breathtaking backdrop of the Birmingham skyline from atop Red Mountain. Attendees are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs, settle in, and enjoy a night of cinema!
The April installment, presented by American Cast Iron Pipe Company, brings the beloved green ogre to the big screen with all the laughs, heart, and fairy-tale send-ups that have made Shrek a multigenerational classic. Gates open at 7 PM, with the movie starting at 7:30 PM.
“Movies on the Mountain is one of our favorite nights of the year, and we can’t wait to welcome the community back to Vulcan Park for another season,” said Cailen Raines, Junior Board Chair at Vulcan Park & Museum. “There’s something special about watching a great film with friends and family while the city lights up behind you. We’re grateful to American Cast Iron Pipe Company for helping make this first night possible.”
What to Expect
Beyond the film, guests can look forward to a full evening of fun. Free popcorn and cookies will be available while supplies last, and concessions, including cotton candy, candy, and snacks, will be on sale throughout the event. Local food vendors will be on site, and a cash bar offering beer and wine will be available for adults 21 and older.
Vulcan Park & Museum’s beloved mascot, “V,” will be on hand for photos, hugs, and the kind of smiles that make for the best memories of the night.
Pets are welcome at Movies on the Mountain. Dogs must remain on a leash at all times, and waste stations are located throughout the Park. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
