Vulcan Statue to Receive a Fresh Coat of Paint

Vulcan Park and Museum will Close for a Few Days for Statue Maintenance

Birmingham, Ala. —  Part of Vulcan Park and Museum’s (VPM) mission is to preserve and promote Vulcan as the symbol for the Birmingham region. To support this mission, and the 56-foot tall iron statue who bares all external elements, necessary maintenance must take place from time to time.

Starting Monday, April 24 through Friday, April 28, VPM will close to the general public for statue maintenance. Vulcan will receive a fresh new coat of paint for the first time since March 2010!

“In an effort not to compromise the Vulcan Park and Museum experience, and for the safety of our daily visitors, we will be closing the park grounds and museum during our day time hours,” said Director of Visitor Experience Joe Saling.

The VPM grounds and Vulcan’s observation tower will open on those days during evening hours from 6:00 until 10:00 p.m.
