Entrepreneur Larry Thornton began his career as a high school art teacher. But when budget cuts forced him out of a job, he found work as a sign painter at Coca-Cola Bottling UNITED. Larry’s supervisors soon promoted him to advertising manager — the first Black person to ever hold the job. Larry went on to open six McDonald’s franchises and to join the Coca-Cola UNITED board of directors. In this Facebook Live Chat, Larry discusses his early work at Coca-Cola Bottling UNITED, including the opposition he sometimes faced as the Black supervisor of an all-white team, as well as his work as an entrepreneur and painter.
