Kiwanis Vulcan Trail:  Mysteries of the Mountain

As we walk the newly opened Kiwanis Vulcan Trail, you’ll experience Birmingham’s mining history in illuminating detail. Built on the roadbed of the Mineral Railroad, the trail reveals the natural beauty of Red Mountain and the story of its industrial past – if you know where to look.

On March 23 and 24, join the Freshwater Land Trust for a special tour of the Kiwanis-Vulcan Trail as part of the planned 750-mile Red Rock Ridge and Valley Trail System. Learn about the Birmingham Mineral Railroad, early ore mining on Red Mountain, how the use of this area has transformed from industrial to recreational and how the city skyline has changed over the years.
