Creating a campus that is livable and connected to the rest of Birmingham has been a challenge for UAB planners. New building projects, arising out of the campus’s own form-based code, have transformed what began as a commuter campus into an engaging place to learn and live. Pedestrian pathways and transportation systems extending to 4th Avenue North will soon ensure access to both academic buildings and the city’s wealth of cultural assets.
