Dynamite Hill: Smithfield’s Center Street Walking Tour

Limited seating. Purchase tickets today!

Walking up Center St, which came to be known as “Dynamite Hill” in the 1950s, we’ll be guided by people who grew up in the neighborhood and lived its history.  From them, you’ll get to know the people, the effects of red-lining, and the conditions that changed both the neighborhood and the future of Birmingham. Officially designated a part of the Civil Rights Trail, the tour will illuminate a significant time and place in Birmingham’s history.

This second installment of the walking tour series offers participants a fun, invigorating way to experience the history and architectural beauty of Birmingham’s neighborhoods and cultural districts.

The tours are made possible through The Caring Foundation of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, Spire, and Protective Life Corporation.

The Saturday tour begins at 9:30 a.m. Registration is $10 for Vulcan Park and Museum members and $12 non-members.  Space is limited and advanced registration is required.
