Washington & Du Bois: Two Opinions, One Goal

Vulcan Park & Museum has commissioned playwright and director Lee Shackleford to write a one-act, two-man play titled: Washington & Du Bois: Two Opinions, One Goal. The play will compare the different philosophies of two early civil rights activists, Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois, while showing how they came to respect one another. Comparing their two philosophies of post-Civil War integration will educate audiences on the complexity of changing a culture of racial discrimination, something we still wrestle with as a nation today.

As a part of Vulcan Park & Museum’s adult educational series, Birmingham Revealed, Washington & Du Bois: Two Opinions, One Goal will premiere on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. following a reception at 5:30 p.m.  The performance, endorsed by the Alabama Bicentennial Commission, will kick off Vulcan Park & Museum’s inaugural Black History Month program.
