Integrating Performing Arts in the High School Classroom Symposium

Reserve your spot today!

Besides being the primary focus in music and theater classes, performing arts provide an engaging way to study social studies and language arts. The possibilities of adapting performing arts for classroom use are endless – analyzing music and lyrics, writing historical monologues and dramatic scenes, composing liner notes for historical recordings. To students, such projects are a chance to have fun and assert their creative selves. To teachers, they are a chance to reinforce critical thinking and research techniques while advancing both the Alabama Course of Study and Alabama College and Career Ready Standards.

Integrating Performing Arts in the High School Classroom will demonstrate classroom strategies using music and drama to advance the curriculum. Teachers will leave with a detailed unit of study designed to enthrall students while teaching them about their past.

Cost is $15 per teacher. Lunch, materials, and a guided tour of La Storia: Birmingham’s Italian Community are included.
